Some Want Kamala, Others Want Bernie, I Want Primaries

You can run Oprah cover stories all year long. You can say that Bernie’s the man to beat, even though he’s still not a Dem. You can say Biden should have been the nominee in 2016. You can say he’s ready now, despite his age. You can say we need a white guy. You can say no more white guys. You can say Elizabeth Warren. Kamala Harris. Kirsten Gillibrand. Luis Gutiérrez. Sherrod Brown. You can say The Rock is legit. I don’t care.

I care about primaries. Debates. Hot lights and lecterns and questions from Maddow. I’m not lining up fast behind some person because I think they can do it. Oh no. They need to fight for my vote. They need to woo. You know how you win? With vision. With ideas that sing. With policies that make sense for all. Who out here will go big? Who out here fights for liberty and justice for all? I need boldness. I need so much more than “I’m not Trump.”

Of course, there’s benefits to choosing candidates early. Especially if you want to work for them during or after the campaign. But I don’t feel that pressure. I’m going to make like a Miracle and shop around. Can’t wait.
